Instant Guitar for Hopelessly Busy People   (ages 13 & up)

Have you ever wanted to learn the guitar but simply found it difficult to find the time? In just a few hours you can learn enough about  playing the guitar to give you years of musical enjoyment, and you won't have to take private lessons to do it. This crash course will teach you some basic chords and get you playing along with your favorite songs right away. Topics include: how chords work in a song, how to form the three main types of chords, how to tune your guitar, basic strumming patterns, how to buy a good guitar (things to avoid), and how to play along with simple tunes. Be sure to bring your acoustic guitar. A material fee of $29 is payable to the instructor for workbook and practice DVD, and is payable on the first day of class.

How to Play Guitar by Ear  (ages 13 & up)

Learn one of music's deepest mysteries: how to play songs without relying on music. A very practical presentation of music theory that includes predicting chord progressions, learning from recordings, and transposing - all expressed in everyday language. Expand your musical horizons, free yourself from sheet-music dependence, and be the life of the party! Prior experience with guitar chords recommended. Materials fee of $29 for the “How to Play Guitar by Ear” book and practice CD will be collected in class by the instructor.

Here you will learn all the chords you’ll need to play any song, any style, any key. It’s easy, fun, and musically correct! If you can find Middle C and know what “Every Good Boy Does Fine” means, you know enough to succeed in this workshop.

Top Secret Piano by Ear (ages 18 & up)

Anyone can play piano by ear. This workshop shows you the inside secrets professional musicians use (but never reveal). You’ll learn how to play tunes from memory. You’ll learn how to play songs from recordings. You’ll even learn how to transpose. This workshop goes beyond mere ear training. You’ll get information found nowhere else, and you’ll be playing songs by ear - with both hands - from the very first day. Open to all musicians (not just piano players) who have a basic understanding of Major, Minor and Seventh chord theory. Beginners should take “Top Secret Piano for Hopelessly Busy People” as a prerequisite.

Topics include:

*How to find the starting note

*How to determine when cords change

*How to predict the chord progression

*How chords help you find the correct melody

*How the melody helps you find the correct chords

*How to learn songs from recordings in all keys

*How to transpose

*The Universal Key Signature

*How to use the Circle of Fifths

*How to recognize the most common chord patterns

Just Once Drums for Busy People   (ages 10 & up)

Have you ever wanted to learn to play the drums, but simply find it difficult to find the time? In just a few hours even an absolute beginner can learn to play basic drum set patterns and have years of musical enjoyment, and you won't have to take private lessons to do it. This crash course will teach basic technique, hand exercises, basic rock patterns, drum fills, and get you playing along with your favorite songs right away. Bring your drumsticks and practice pad or purchase a set at the workshop. Topics include: how to hold the sticks, how to pick a good drum set, basic stick exercises, 3 limb independence, basic rock patterns and grooves in 4/4, 3/4, and 6/8 time, basic drum fills, and how to play in the "groove". A material fee of $29 is payable to the instructor for workbook and practice DVD, and is payable at the class.
