Headless Horseman 5K

“Run Ichabod Run”

Saturday, October 24

8:00pm

“…He stopped, his heart pounding in fear. Before his startled eyes, a white mist burst

forth from an unmarked grave and formed into a large horsecarrying a headless rider.  The Dutchman let out a terrible scream as the horse leapt toward him at a full gallop. He took to his heels, running as fast as he could…”  On a dark October night, it’s easy to imagine a shadowy horseman rising up from the mist, armed with a jack-o’-lantern as he gallops along Grand River Ave. in search of his head, running ole’

Ichabod Crane out of town.   The Halloween spirit is alive and well in our small city of Howell, Michigan where each year we commemorate the story by Washington Irving at the Downtown Development Authority’s “Legend of Sleepy Howell”.  A new event has been added this year to capture the imaginations of young and old in the retelling of this marvelous tale.  We encourage everyone to get into the spirit of the season in Sleepy Howell by participating in the “Headless Horseman 5K”, a costumed run/walk that will bring to a close the festivities on this dark and spooky night.
